Ever found Japanese hard to read on Discord because the font is too small but you don't want to scale everything up? Here's a solution for you.
First, you need a way to inject CSS into Discord. This can be done via:
* Custom client: Like Vencord. If using Vencord, navigate to Discord Settings > Vencord > Edit QuickCSS at the top.
* Browser extension: Like Stylus if you're on Discord web. (You'll need to find instructions on how to add custom CSS for Stylus).
Once you have your CSS injection method set up, simply add the following CSS code:
@font-face {
font-family: "CustomJapanese";
src: local("Noto Sans JP"), local("Meiryo"); /* You can switch the fonts here to you preferred ones */
unicode-range: U+3000-30FF, U+4E00-9FFF, U+FF00-FFEF; /* This makes sure it's only used for Japanese characters */
size-adjust: 115%;
}
/* Apply the new font first so it overrides Japanese characters */
:root {
--font-primary: "CustomJapanese", "gg sans", "Noto Sans JP", "Meiryo", sans-serif !important;
--font-display: "CustomJapanese", "gg sans", "Noto Sans JP", "Meiryo", sans-serif !important;
}
The important variable here is size-adjust. You can test out different values to find what you're comfortable with. A value of 115% is suggested as a good starting point. You can also apply other properties like font-weight or use different Japanese fonts if desired. For more information on @font-face properties, refer to the MDN Web Docs.
